Mineral Exploration Standards

Uncovering our wealth
With a number of possible mineral sources already established within our region, and more to come, proper management and regulation of these resources is becoming an increasingly important part of the work of the department of Lands and Natural Resources.

The Mineral Exploration Standards under the Mineral Exploration and Quarrying Standards Act regulate mineral exploration within Labrador Inuit Lands. These standards facilitate mineral exploration while minimizing impacts on the environment.

Any person seeking to explore or quarry on Labrador Inuit Lands must apply to both the Nunatsiavut Government and the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador by submitting a work plan as described in the Application-for-Mineral-Exploration.

Note: For mineral exploration within the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area, provincial regulations still apply.
