LIA to Hold Information Sessions Regarding Voisey’s Bay Project

(Nain, NL.) January 8, 2004. During January and February, the Labrador Inuit Association (LIA) will hold information sessions for its members regarding the Voisey’s Bay Project. These sessions are the third in a series of regularly scheduled sessions aimed at ensuring LIA members are informed of developments and opportunities associated with the Voisey’s Bay Project. Information sessions are scheduled as follows:

Nain Thursday, January 22 at 7PM in the LIA Boardroom
Hopedale Monday, January 26 at 7:30PM in the Amaguk Inn
Rigolet Tuesday, January 27 at 7PM in the Community Hall
Postville Wednesday, January 28 at 7PM in the Council Chambers
Makkovik Thursday, January 29 at 7PM in the Community Hall
Goose Bay Monday, February 2 at 7PM in the Labrador Friendship Centre
Northwest River Tuesday, February 3 at 7PM in the Community Hall
St. John’s Wednesday, February 4 at 7PM in the Native Friendship Centre

During the sessions, Natan Obed, LIA Impacts and Benefits Agreement (IBA) Coordinator, and Theresa Hollett, LIA IBA Training and Employment Coordinator will provide an update on the Voisey’s Bay Project and respond to member's questions. The presentations will place special emphasis on implementing LIA’s Impacts and Benefits Agreement, recapping the 2003 construction season, training and employment opportunities, emerging business opportunities, protecting the environment and the workings of the Tasiujatsoak Trust.

Both coordinators will be available to LIA members on the afternoon before each community session at the LIA office in each community.

The Labrador Inuit Association represents over 5,300 Labrador Inuit. Labrador Inuit live in Northern Labrador, other parts of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada.
