Community Healing Initiative
Concerned with crisis levels of suicide, alcohol and drug abuse and violence, a government committee of Ministers and officials completed a series of hearings throughout Inuit communities and in Upper Lake Melville in 2006. A report will be presented to the new elected assembly. Recommendations may include legislation, regulations or limitations on the sale of alcohol and access to drugs, and programs to help individuals and families. A Community Healing Coordinator will support the government's actions.
