Message from the Minister
The Department of Finance and Human Resources plays a key role in the Nunatsiavut Government. As the department responsible for finance, our staff look after funding arrangements with the federal and provincial governments, as well as the money we make from our own industries and partnerships with other business groups. Financial accountability and responsibility is important in the Nunatsiavut Government because it is your money which we are managing. Labrador Inuit are managing Labrador Inuit funds, and we take that very seriously.
Additionally, the department is a leader of the Nunatsiavut Civil Service. Governments these days have important responsibilities to manage human resources in a fair manner so that their programs are effective and efficient. The Nunatsiavut Government is no different.
We are also responsible for information technology within the government. As a decentralized government, our Nunatsiavut wide area network will be critical in ensuring timely, efficient, and secure communications within the Nunatsiavut civil service. It also allows us to experiment with new and emerging technologies to aid in program and service delivery in Labrador Inuit communities. |
