Overview
The Department of Lands and Natural Resources is responsible for all matters related to the Nunatsiavut Government's role in co-managing both renewable and non-renewable resources. It is also responsible for applying Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement provisions for resource development. The department regulates water management and Inuit water rights, as well as ocean management. It has the responsibility of managing Labrador Inuit Lands and Specified Materials Lands. It is responsible for implementing both the Voisey's Bay Impacts and Benefits Agreement and the Torngat Mountains National Park Reserve Impacts and Benefits Agreement. Included in the department's mandate are land use planning, environmental assessment, environmental protection and monitoring, and management of fisheries, wildlife and plants.
