The Labrador Inuit Development Corporation (LIDC), incorporated
in 1982, is a wholly owned subsidiary of LIA focused on economic
development. Its mandate is to improve the living conditions
of Labrador Inuit by creating and providing employment and economic
opportunities. It focuses on traditional skills and on training
and skills transfer for emerging opportunities. LIDC has successfully
established joint ventures such as the Torngait Ujaganniavingit
Corporation (stone quarry operation, 100% owned), Pikalujak
Fisheries (shrimp, 50% owned), Panarctic Inuit Logistics Incorporated
(25% owned) and Torngait Services Limited Partnership (51% owned).
LIDC provides advice and support to more than 30 Inuit businesses
in Labrador. It constantly seeks new business opportunities.
