Lands
The Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement defines the range and scope of Nunatsiavut, an area of over 120,000 square kilometers. This is divided between the terrestrial area encompassing 72,250 square kilometers of Labrador, and an adjacent marine area of 48,690 square kilometers. Within Nunatsiavut, Labrador Inuit own approximately 15,800 square kilometers of land. 3,950 square kilometers of Labrador Inuit Land is further defined as Specified Material Land. In the northernmost region of Nunatsiavut 9,700 square kilometers has been set aside as the Torngat Mountains National Park Reserve of Canada.

These numbers crystallize the challenging task before us of effectively managing the lands and resources of Nunatsiavut.
