Land-Use Planning
The land use plan is a plan for the management of land, water and resource use in the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area. The Labrador Inuit Land Claims agreement requires that a land use plan for the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area, including Labrador Inuit Lands, be prepared within three years of Effective Date.

A regional planning authority will be established to oversee the land use planning process. It will be composed of four members appointed jointly by the province and the Nunatsiavut Government. The members must have knowledge and experience in land use planning.

The land use plan will apply to all lands, waters and resources in the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area other than lands under the control and administration of the federal government and tidal waters within the jurisdiction of the federal government. So, the land use planning process involves only the provincial government and the Nunatsiavut government.

The province and Nunatsiavut Government have the option of entering into discussions with Canada regarding the objectives of the federal oceans management strategy under Part II of the Oceans Act .
