Message from the Minister
Nunatsiavut Government has the power to create its own laws in certain areas. In addition, there will be responsibilities assumed from federal and provincial governments. Also, there are those responsibilities and obligations we have under the Labrador Inuit Constitution. As such, the Department of Nunatsiavut Affairs is both an advocate for beneficiaries and an overseer of our Government. Combining these roles of making sure that the Land Claim Agreement is implemented as planned while helping Labrador Inuit revitalize our communities is important to our development as a people.
In particular, the department is very interested in young Labrador Inuit. We must provide an environment to help our youth develop the confidence and skills to lead our government into the future. Key to that end is encouraging them to reach their personal goals, take pride in their heritage, and carry on our traditions. While we face challenges, we do so today with the tools and instruments of the modern world working alongside those of our culture and history. We have faced many challenges, individually and collectively, over the last several generations. History has proven that when working collectively, there are none that we could not meet. |
