Overview
The Nunatsiavut Transitional Government is made up of the former Labrador Inuit Association board of directors. All individuals who held offices as directors immediately before the effective date of the Agreement became ordinary members of the Nunatsiavut Assembly. The Nunatsiavut Assembly will exercise its authority and be guided by both the Agreement and the Labrador Inuit Constitution.

The primary role of the Nunatsiavut Transitional Government is to establish the base for the first Nunatsiavut Government when it is elected in October. The Transitional Government is passing necessary acts and laws, restructuring the various former Labrador Inuit institutions as the Nunatsiavut civil service, managing the investment of funds and completing a transitional work plan.

The Nunatsiavut Transitional Government is also preparing for construction of the legislative capital in Hopedale and the administrative capital in Nain. The legislative capital will host the Nunatsiavut Government Assemblies. This is where community and Nunatsiavut Government representatives discuss and pass laws. The administrative capital will serve as the home for the leaders of the Nunatsiavut Government, and the executive of the departments as they carry out their day-to-day responsibilities.
