The Department of Culture, Language and Tourism is responsible for the Torngâsok Cultural Centre whose work focuses upon the preservation, protection, promotion and advancement of Labrador Inuit language and culture.

Torngâsok provides a range of language and culture related initiatives and programs including:

  • The aboriginal language initiative - language camps and other opportunities for Inuit youth and adults to learn and speak Inuttitut.
  • The Ilisautikka Inuttitut Initiative - the development and distribution of learning tools including an Inuttitut - English dictionary (Labradorimi Ulinnaisigutet); the Rosetta Stone CD-ROM Inuttitut language program; a children's book of Inuktitut words and pictures (Atuagaga UKausinnut); and a bilingual collection of stories drawn from 16 Inuit storytellers (Unikkâlautta).
