The Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement and the Labrador Inuit Constitution came into effect at the first Assembly of the Nunatsiavut Transitional Government, held in Nain, on December 1, 2005.
The Labrador Inuit are the only Inuit in Canada to own and govern its own self-government.
Constructed at a cost of $9.4 million, the Nunatsiavut Assembly Building officially opened in Hopedale on September 4, 2012.
The third Nunatsiavut Assembly since the formation of the Nunatsiavut Government was elected on May 6, 2014.
