Intergovernmental AffairsEnsuring great relationships
Working with both the federal and provincial governments, as well as other Inuit populations, the Secretariat works on our behalf to ensure our rights and common goals are upheld.
The Secretariat works on behalf of the Nunatsiavut Government to ensure that the rights of Labrador Inuit and the terms of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement are recognized and honoured by federal and provincial governments. The Secretariat maintains working relationships with the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; and participates in forums such as the Land Claims Agreement Coalition (LCAC).
The Secretariat also recognizes the importance of liaison activities with Inuit in Canada and the circumpolar world in pursuit of our common goals. In keeping with this objective, the President sits on the Board of Directors of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, the national Inuit organization.
